Career

Wheatley began his motorsport career at Benetton as a junior mechanic in the early 1990s. He rose through the ranks at Enstone to become the Chief Mechanic in 2001 until 2006 when he left for Red Bull Racing.[2]

Wheatley is instrumental to the success of Red Bull, with his role in the team consisting of ensuring that the team is operating within the FIA sporting regulations, monitoring communications within the team at events, and is the man responsible for the pit crew which is widely regarded to be the best in Formula One.[3][4]

Wheatley is very well known due to his impact within the pit stop segment of a typical Grand Prix race. This is due to his innovations and efforts behind the scenes to revolutionize the modern pitstop and train his team to achieve consistent world records within the industry of Formula 1, holding the top three fastest world record pitstops ever within the championship. Known as the 'man behind the two-second-pitstop' within the sport. Wheatley's team most notable achievement was breaking the world record for fastest F1 Pitstop in Brazil 2019 Grand Prix of a staggering '1.82' second pitstop.[3][5][6][7][8]
