Jorge Martín

Jorge Martín Almoguera (born 29 January 1998), nicknamed the Martinator, is a Spanish Grand Prix motorcycle racer. He won the 2018 Moto3 World Championship with Gresini Racing, and was the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup champion in 2014. In 2021 Martin moved up to the premier class to race with Pramac Racing. He won the first race in the Austrian doubleheader that year as well as securing three pole positions for his first seven starts.

Career

MAPFRE Team Mahindra (2015)

In 2015, Martín made his full-time Grand Prix debut in the Moto3 World Championship with MAPFRE Team Mahindra, riding a Mahindra alongside Francesco Bagnaia and Juanfran Guevara. His best result was a 7th place in Aragon. He managed to score 45 points in his rookie season.

Pull & Bear Aspar Mahindra Team (2016)

Martín remained with the same team for 2016. His first-ever Grand Prix podium came in the rain-affected Czech Grand Prix, where he finished second. He closed the season at 16th place, scoring 72 points.

Del Conca Gresini Moto3 (2017–2018)

In 2017 he moved to the Del Conca Gresini team. His teammate was Fabio Di Giannantonio. He achieved his first victory in Valencia ,two second places (Grand Prix of the Americas and Malaysia ), six third places ( Qatar , Argentina , Catalonia, Austria , Great Britain and Australia ) and nine pole positions (Qatar, France , Italy , Catalonia , Holland, Aragon, Australia and the Valencian Community) and ended the season in 4th place with 196 points. He was forced to miss the Czech Republic Grand Prix at the Brno circuit due to an injury sustained in the previous round.

In 2018 he became the world champion in the Moto3 class. During the season he obtained seven wins (Qatar, Americas, Italy, Holland, Germany, Aragon and Malaysia), a second place in the San Marino Grand Prix, a third place in Austria and eleven pole positions (Americas, Spain , France , Italy, Holland, Germany, Great Britain (the race was later canceled because the asphalt did not drain the rain), San Marino, Aragon, Australia and Malaysia). He got 260 championship points. This year he was forced to miss the Czech Republic Grand Prix due to the fracture of the left radius remedied in free practice.

2019

In 2019 he moved to Moto2, riding for the Ajo Motorsport team. He collected a second place in Australia and a third place in Japan and ended the season in 11th place with 94 points.

2020

In 2020 he remained with the Ajo team but switches to riding a Kalex. He gets pole position and third place in Spain. He won his first Moto2 race in the Austrian Grand Prix. He finished in second place in the Styrian Grand Prix. He finished third in Aragon. On 10 September 2020 he announced that he was positive to covid-19, which forced him to skip the Grand Prix of San Marino and the Rimini Riviera and then also the following one in Emilia Romagna. He came second in the European grand Prix and Wins in Valencia. He ended the season in 5th place with 160 points.

2021

Martin joined the premier class with Pramac Racing on the Ducati alongside Johann Zarco who moved from Esponsorama. Martin started off his first season of the race finishing 15th, then started strong by scoring the pole position in the second round of the season at the Doha motorcycle Grand Prix. He later finished the race in 3rd place and scored his first MotoGP podium. Unfortunately, he had a serious accident during the practice before the 2021 Portuguese Grand Prix. He received multiple injuries which forced him to miss at least 2 races and was replaced the two rounds with Tito Rabat. Martin was originally meant to return at the Italian Grand Prix but due to advise by doctors he missed his third race. Martin made a full return to the Catalan Grand Prix and finished 14th on the grid followed by a 12th place finish at the German Grand Prix, at the Dutch GP Martin retired after 14 laps due to having physical issues with his biceps and also having tendinitis, at the Styrian GP, Martin took his second pole position and following a restarted Styrian GP following a red flag incident. Martin took his maiden MotoGP win in his Rookie season and earning Pramac Racing’s first ever MotoGP victory.
