Lyodra Ginting

Lyodra was born with the name Lyodra Margareta Ginting on June 21, 2003.[4] Margareta is her baptismal name. She is the daughter of entrepreneur Simar Ginting and psychiatric nurse Natalia Johanna Tarigan. Born and raised in Medan, North Sumatra, she is of Karo descent.[5] She took piano classes for around two years.[6]

Lyodra's whistle register was discovered for the first time when she did some vocalizations at her parents' house. "I just came back from school then randomly tried to reaches the highest note, as high as I could with Mariah Carey's song," she said. Surprisedly, she reached the highest (also the hardest) part of the song perfectly.[7]

In 2014, Lyodra took her singing career more seriously by participating in Kirana Semen Indonesia, a national children's singing competition held by state-owned company PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. After won the regional round in Medan, she made her journey along with 28 children from 28 cities in Indonesia to the national finals at the Djakarta Theater XXI in Central Jakarta, March 31, 2014. She placed fourth and claimed the first consolation prize of 25 million Rupiah (equal to USD 2,140).[8]

Furthermore, she also participated in Indonesia Mencari Bakat 4 contest on Trans TV and became a finalist who occupies the 6th position. Lyodra's singing talent was also discovered by orchestra conductor Erwin Gutawa and his daughter Gita Gutawa, when in the same year they included Lyodra in the project of Di Atas Rata-Rata 2 (DARR 2), which is a group of musical gifted children.[9]

Her participation in the program brought Lyodra to appear at various national music events. As in the 2016 Java Jazz Festival, Lyodra also became one of the singers who filled the event, alongside other DARR 2 members. She and the DARR 2 team also performed at the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17, 2016, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.[10]

In 2017, Lyodra took part in the Sanremo Junior, an international singing competition for soloists aged 6 to 15 years old, held at the Ariston Theater in the city of Sanremo, Italy. There were 24 world finalists from 18 countries, divided into three categories based on participants' age. In the competition held on May 3, 2017, Lyodra performed the song "Dear Dream" by Gita Gutawa and managed to become the winner of A3 Category (13 to 15 years old), defeating nine participants from nine countries. She also the only finalist who chosen as the Sanremo Junior Committee’s Award recipient.[11][12][13]

Lyodra on Indonesian Idol 2019–2020

Furthermore, in 2019, at the age of 16, Lyodra participated in the Indonesian Idol. And on March 2, 2020, she was crowned the winner, defeating Tiara Andini.[14] She is the youngest winner of Indonesian Idol in history, at the age of 16 years 255 days old.[15]

In February 2021, she made her acting debut in Rangga Nattra's 7 Hari Sebelum 17 Tahun seven-episode teen drama web series.[16] Lyodra also released her eponymous debut studio album, entitled Lyodra, on July 16th, 2021.[17][18]

Lyodra possesses a soprano vocal range. Salman Achmad of Hai described her vocals as "has power to reaches high notes". Meanwhile, Diana Rafikasari of Sindonews characterized her as "very capable in processing slow tempo songs".[19][20] DARR 2 official website wrote that Lyodra is "strong in singing powerful pop song".[21] Her music incorporates pop — especially pop ballad — and R&B.[22][23] Lyodra has cited Beyoncé, Jessie J, Bruno Mars, and Ariana Grande as major musical and style influences for her and other influences include Mariah Carey, Agnez Mo, Raisa, Rossa, Judika, Once Mekel, Dua Lipa, and Billie Eilish.[24][25][26][27][28]
