Maastricht Institute of Arts

The Maastricht Institute of Arts (formerly Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts, Dutch: Academie Beeldende Kunsten Maastricht (ABKM)) is founded on 3 February 1823 and located in the city of Maastricht in the Netherlands. It is part of the Zuyd University (Hogeschool Zuyd). The training offered at academies of fine arts in the Netherlands comes under the heading Hoger Beroepsonderwijs (hbo) which stands for Higher Professional Education.

The Institute offers programmes in Fine Arts, Communication and Multimedia Design, Design, Fine Art and Design in Education, Interdisciplinary Arts, the Master Scientific Illustration and bachelor and master programmes in the Maastricht Academy of Architecture.

The Maastricht Institute of Arts is housed in a building from 1962 at Herdenkingsplein in the inner city neighbourhood of Kommelkwartier, and a 1990-1993 modernist extension by Dutch architect Wiel Arets.
