Maharashtra Open

Maharashtra Open[2] ( also known as Tata Open Maharashtra for sponsorship reasons) is a professional men's tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts in Pune, India. It is part of the ATP Tour 250 series on the ATP Tour.

The inaugural event was held in New Delhi. It was then shifted to Chennai and since 2018 it moved to Pune, where it is held in January.[3] The tournament is owned by and organized by RISE Worldwide.[4] It is the only tour level tennis event currently held in India.[5]It is South Asia's only ATP tour profesional tennis event.[6]

It is annually organised by Maharashtra Lawn Tennis Association (MLTA) organisations. [7]

History
Stan Wawrinka is the most successful player at the event, winning 4 titles (2011, 2014, 2015, and 2016) and reaching a further final (2010).
Indian duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes won the doubles titles four times between 1997 and 2002, and again in 2011.

Maharshtra Open held every year since 1996. Initially it was held at New Delhi then in Chennai. In Chennai it is known as Chennai Open. The championship moved to Pune town of Maharashtra and rebranded as Maharashtra Open. It has been held in Pune since 2018.[8]

In 2021 due to Covid-19 and clash of dates with Australian Open it was not organised.[9]

Stadium

Maharashtra Open annually held at Mhalunge Balewadi Tennis Complex at Pune in India. It is a hard Court championship.[10]
