Marlowe (upcoming film)

Marlowe is an upcoming neo-noir thriller film written by William Monahan and directed by Neil Jordan. It is based on the 2014 novel The Black-Eyed Blonde by John Banville and stars Liam Neeson as Philip Marlowe, a fictional character created by Raymond Chandler. The film also stars Diane Kruger, Jessica Lange, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Alan Cumming, Danny Huston, Ian Hart, Colm Meaney, Daniela Melchior, and François Arnaud.

Premise

In the 1950s, private detective Philip Marlowe is hired to find the ex-lover of a glamorous heiress. Initially an open and shut case, Marlowe soon finds himself in the underbelly of Hollywood's film industry and unwittingly drawn into the crossfire of a legendary Hollywood actress and her subversive, ambitious daughter.

On March 31, 2017, it was announced Liam Neeson would portray Philip Marlowe, a fictional character created by Raymond Chandler, in a detective thriller based on the 2014 novel The Black-Eyed Blonde by Irish author John Banville, with a screenplay adapted by William Monahan.[1] In June 2021, Neil Jordan signed on to direct.[2] Principal photography began by November 2021 in locations in Spain and Ireland. On November 4, 2021, Neeson was spotted while filming in Barcelona.[3] In November 2021, it was reported Diane Kruger, Jessica Lange, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Alan Cumming, Danny Huston, Ian Hart, Colm Meaney, Daniela Melchior, and François Arnaud would also star.[4][5]
