Matumbi people

The Matumbi are a Bantu ethnolinguistic group based in Lindi Region in southern Tanzania, on the banks of the Ruvuma River, who speak the Matumbi language. In 1978 the Matumbi population was estimated to number 72,000 .

Culture

The Matumbi are farmers that mainly cultivate rice and raise goats and poultry.[1]

The Matumbi are a patrilineal society. [1]

The Matumbi are primarily adherents of Islam. The usage of Arabic names and skull caps are common although some Islamic rituals are rarely observed.[1]
