Meri Maa was adapted from Star Jalsha's Bengali show Maa....Tomay Chara Ghum Ashena in December 2011. But due to low viewership, the show was cancelled in April 2012.
In 2021, producer. In 2021, producer Gul Khan and Nilanjana Purkayasstha from 4 Lions Films and Invictus T Media planned a second remake to the original show for StarPlus. This is the second time that producers Gul Khan and Nilanjana Purkayasstha have collaborated, after Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala. The show premiered on 6th September 2021.
This second remake is named as Chikoo Ki Mummy Durr Kei which starred Paridhi Sharma, Himmanshoo A. Malhotra and Vaishnavi Prajapati in lead roles.
Unfortunately due to the evening early prime timeslot given to the second remake, it garnered low ratings and is speculated to go off-air in January 2022 and getting replaced by Kabhie Kabhi Kabhie Ittefaq Sey which would replace the timeslot with Saath Nibhana Saathiya 2 who would replace timeslot with Zindagi Mere Ghar Aana who would take Chikoo Ki Mummy Durr Kei 's timeslot.
