Mobile Legends World Championships

The First World Championships were held in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia wherein over 16 teams flew to Malaysia and competed for the title as World Champions in Mobile Legends. These 16 teams would battle to become the very first Mobile Legends: Bang Bang World Champion and was the first World competition for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Through Local Qualifiers and Professional Esport Leagues, the World Championships were primarily made up of teams from Brazil, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam. The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) sent two teams from Indonesia, Malaysia/Singapore, Myanmar and the Philippines.[8] The tournament was held from November 15–17, 2019. With the Prize Pool at $250,000, the games began by the Group Stage wherein teams would draw and be grouped into Four Groups each having 4 Teams within the Group. These teams would face off each other to fight for a spot in both the Upper Bracket and the Lower Brackets. Two teams would advance and two teams would be eliminated. Indonesia was able to Qualify its two teams, the Burmese Ghouls were able to qualify to the Upper Bracket, Japan's 10s Gaming+ were able to reach the Best of 3 against Malaysia's TODAK, and the Philippines' qualified team of the SunSparks managed to eliminated VEC Fantasy Main of Vietnam in the First Round of the Playoffs.[9][10][11]

In the Grand Finals, the eventual contenders were the two Indonesian teams in EVOS Legends and RRQ (Rex Regum Qeon) in a Best of 7. EVOS Legends became the first World Champions after winning against RRQ in a tight Game 7 Matchup.[12] EVOS Legends would bring home $80,000 and an additional $3,000 for the MVP.[13]

The Second World Championships were originally planned to be held in Jakarta in Indonesia[14] but was postponed and moved to Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore due to the amidst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Then-Current Champions EVOS Legends failed to qualify for the World Championships and was eliminated from the MPL-IND Qualifying games with RRQ and Alter Ego qualifying.[15] The Second World Championships welcomed a narrowed down total of 12 teams to Singapore to compete and become the new champions. Teams of the United States, Laos, Vietnam and Turkey did not represent their countries and teams in the second edition of the games. The prize pool of the games were increased from $250,000 to $300,000. With the same format as the first World Championships, the Games were initially held on January 18–24, 2021 after its dates were moved to wait for easing of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions in Singapore. Among the 12 teams, the Philippines' own Bren Esports and Myanmar's Burmese Ghouls were qualified to battle in the Grand Finals.[16] In a tight fight between both teams, Bren Esports pulled off to win a tightly matched Game 7 victory to win the second ever title as World Champions. Moonton released limited edition Bren Esports skins for Bren's victory, a gesture that Moonton also did with EVOS Legends when they won the M1 World Championships in 2019 as a tribute to their victory.

The Third World Championships were announced to occur this December 6 to 19 and would be held offline. The tournament would take place in Singapore for the second time. [17] Similar to its first iteration, M3 would welcome 16 teams from different regions around the world to compete and become the new champions. New MPL franchise teams like SeeYouSoon from MPL Cambodia, as well as Red Canids and Vivo Keyd from MPL Brazil, will participate in this upcoming tournament. Moreover, non-MPL teams of the United States, Russia, Middle East, and Latin America (LATAM) will also join the M3. Unlike last year, Myanmar and Japan will not represent their countries and teams in the third edition of the games. The prize pool of the games was increased from $300,000 to $800,000.[18]
