National Council for Homeopathy

The National Council for Homeopathy (NCH) is an autonomous body constituted to regulate the education and registration of homeopathic medical practitioners in Pakistan.[1][2]

Based in Rawalpindi, the council was formed in 1965, when homeopathic system of medicine was recognized by the Government of Pakistan under the Unani, Ayurvedic and Homeopathic Practitioners Act, 1965.[3][4][5]

Board of Homeopathic system of Medicine was formed in 1965 by Government of Pakistan and first office of Board of HOMEOPATHIC was constructed in Karachi, Pakistan. The space for construction of office of Homoeopathic Board was donated by Dr. Hamid Baba-e-Homeopathy in Pakistan. (Homeopathic) He was poineer and founder of Homeopathy system of medicine in Pakistan. History of Homeopathic system of medicine in Pakistan. For 18 year's after the creation of Pakistan including East and West Pakistan. Homeopathic was practiced widely but remain unofficially unrecognized. The Government of Pakistan recoginized and regulated Homeopathic system of medicine in Pakistan and passed an act called Unani Aryuvadic and Homeopathic Act (UAH) act 1965 under this act Herbal and Homeopathic medicines were regulated.Homeopath wishing to continue their practice in Homeopathy were assessed by a Government of Pakistan nominated the Board of Senior Homeopathic Doctors. All Homeopathic practitioners with sufficient experience and knowledge in field of Homeopathic system were officially and formally registered under UAH act 1965 and allowed to continue their practice in Homeopathy. This Board of Homeopathic System of Medicine working under the Ministry of Health Government of the Pakistan was renamed the National Council for Homeopathy and this Council is responsible for conducting the examination's, approving the new Homeopathic Colleges and registering Homeopathic practitioner's.

Overview

The council consisted of 21 members. Four members, being registered homeopaths, are nominated by the provincial government, one from each province eleven members are elected from among the registered and listed homeopaths, two members are elected from among themselves by the teachers of recognized homeopathy institutions and four members are nominated by the Federal Government, of whom one a scientist from the related field and one Deputy Secretary (Budget), Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination.

The election of members are held after five years on provincial basis by direct balloting system. All registered homeopathic practitioners cast their votes for all seats of their related province.[4] The council accredits and registers the four year Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (D.H.M.S.) and the five year Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (B.H.M.S.) degree programs by different colleges and universities throughout Pakistan.

National Council for Homeopathy is a regulating body in Pakistan to accredit homeopathy facilities and is affiliated with the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.[6]
