One Piece Film: Red

One Piece Film: Red is an upcoming Japanese anime fantasy action-adventure film produced by Toei Animation.[1][2] It is the fifteenth feature film of the One Piece film series, based on the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It was first announced on November 21, 2021 in commemoration of the One Piece anime episode 1000's release and following the broadcast of the episode, a teaser trailer and poster was released on November 21, 2021. It is scheduled for release on August 6, 2022.[3][4][5]

Gorō Taniguchi has previously directed the 1998 OVA, One Piece: Defeat The Pirate Ganzak!, which was produced by Production I.G. It was the first animated adaptation of One Piece manga, released before the anime series broadcast and had limited screenings in Japanese theaters. Oda stated that Taniguchi was “the first person to ever animate Luffy”.[3][6]

According to Shinji Shimizu, producer of Toei Animation and One Piece anime, Eiichiro Oda is very involved in the film not only in the script, but also in the executive production part.[7] Oda together with Taniguchi and Tsutomu Kuroiwa, the screenwriter had discussed the script for the film for over two years. After it finished, Oda praised the final script saying it is "wonderful". Kuroiwa stated that One Piece Film: Red will surely be a movie that will pierce the hearts of many people. [8]

Oda drew the character design for the movie-original female character featured in the film announcement poster which was released on November 21, 2021.[4] The film is also touted to be revolving around character "Red-Haired" Shanks.[3][9][10][11][5]
