Paris, 13th District

Paris, 13th District (French: Les Olympiades) is a 2021 French drama film, directed and produced by Jacques Audiard, from a screenplay by Audiard, Céline Sciamma and Léa Mysius, based on the short comic stories Amber Sweet, Hawaiian Getaway and Killing and Dying from the book of the latter's name by American cartoonist Adrian Tomine. It stars Lucie Zhang, Makita Samba, Jehnny Beth and Noémie Merlant.

Not to be confused with Paris's 13th constituency.

Production

In September 2020, it was announced Jacques Audiard would direct and produce the film, from a screenplay he wrote alongside Céline Sciamma and Léa Mysius, with principal photography commencing that same month.[1][2] In October 2020, Lucie Zhang, Makita Samba, Jehnny Beth and Noémie Merlant joined the cast of the film.[3][4]

Release

In March 2021, IFC Films acquired U.S. distribution rights to the film with Curzon Artificial Eye acquiring the UK rights.[5]

Paris, 13th District had its world premiere at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival on 14 July.[6] It will have its North American premiere at 2021 Toronto International Film Festival in September.[7] On October 3, it will be the closing night film at Filmfest Hamburg.[8] It is scheduled to be released in France on 3 November 2021.[9]

Reception

Paris, 13th District holds a 67% approval rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, based on 9 reviews, with a weighted average of 6.50/10.[10] On Metacritic, the film holds a rating of 79 out of 100, based on 9 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[11]
