Qaeda al-Jihad (English: Base of Jihad) is the official name of al-Qaeda.[1] Statements were first issued under that name on 9 April 2002.[2]
In 2008, a statement signed by Mustafa Abu al-Yazid claimed that a member of Qaedat al-Jihad was responsible for the 2008 Danish embassy bombing in Islamabad.[3]
Foreign Relations
Afghanistan
Qaeda al-Jihad and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan have had a long alliance ever since the Afghan Civil War (1992–1996) when Osama bin Laden aided the Taliban. This relationship still stands with the Taliban as they let them stay in their restored Islamic Emirate.[4]
Iran
Qaeda al-Jihad and the Islamic Republic of Iran have an alleged friendship that is heavily debated.[5] It has also been claimed that Qaeda al-Jihad leaders have been hiding in Iran since the United States invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.[6]
