Robbie "Rob" Malone is the bass player for English musician David Gray.[1]

Biography

Robbie Malone is a bass player who’s been working in the music scene for over 25 years. Malone hails from Donaghmede, Dublin, Ireland, and previously played bass for Hothouse Flowers,[2] The Corrs, Jamie Lawson, Vyvienne Long, Hinterland, Damien Dempsey, Mary Coughlan, Juliet Turner, The Pale, Gemma Hayes, Bronagh Gallagher and The Sofas to name but a few. He is probably best known for his bass playing with David Gray. Malone career with Gray has spanned over 20 years now and is still going strong. Along with playing multiple instruments with Gray, he has co-written a number of songs and co-produced on recent David Gray albums which have reached the US Billboard top ten and sold in their millions.

Malone is well known in Ireland as the bass player for Dublin prog-rockers LiR who were touted as the next big thing in Ireland in the early 90s.

He recently recorded on “The Corrs” 2017 record “ Jupiter Calling” which was produced by the legendary T Bone Burnett. Robbie has been married for over 15 years and has two children. Malone is also an educator with The BIMM (Music)institute in Dublin. He has been a tutor and Course leader for over ten years and has a post-graduate in education.

Fun Fact: Before embarking on a career with Lir, Malone played acoustic guitar for the church youth choir in Donaghmede.
