The village was originally inhabited by Turks and named Axtaş. After the inhabitants immigrated in early 19th century, Yezidi Kurdish refugees from the Kurdish regions of Turkey began to settle in the village. The first Yezidi Kurdish settler of this village was Mistiyê Şemo, who was from Şemsikan tribe. He fled Van, Turkey in 1829 and settled in this village with his family. The village began being called Pampa Kurmanca (Kurdish Pamb), since only Kurds inhabited the village and it was in the vicinity of another village that is today called Lernapar, but was back then called Haykakan Pamb, or Pamb Armiyanskiy, both meaning "Armenian Pamb". The term "Pamb" comes from the name of the mountain range Pambak, on whose foot these villages are located.[1]
