Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006

Spain was represented by Las Ketchup in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with the song "Un Blodymary", which has a calm rhythm with Andalusian Flamenco elements. The song was written and composed by Manuel Ruiz Gómez "Queco", who also produced the 2005 Spanish entry - "Brujería" performed by Son de Sol.

Before Eurovision

Internal selection

A submission period was open from 16 December 2005 until 31 January 2006. Only Spanish artists signed to record labels were eligible to submit entries, and songs had to be performed in one of the official languages of Spain.[1] At the conclusion of the submission period, 245 entries were received. An evaluation committee evaluated the entries received and shortlisted four entries for the final selection.[2] The four shortlisted artists were:[3]

On 27 February 2006, after much speculation from Spanish media, TVE announced Las Ketchup as the Spanish entrants at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with the song "Un Blodymary", which would also appear as the name of their next album.[4][5]

At Eurovision

Spain automatically qualified for the grand final, on 20 May 2006; as part of the "Big Four". During the placement draw, it was determined that Spain would perform 6th. On 20 May, Spain placed 21st with 18 points.[6]
