Stanley Main Beach

Stanley Main Beach is a gazetted beach located adjacent to Stanley Market and Stanley Back Beach in the eastern side of the Stanley peninsula, Southern District, Hong Kong. The beach has barbecue pits and is managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Government.[1] The beach is about 194 metres long and is rated as Grade 1 by the Environmental Protection Department for its water quality.[2]

History

On 11 July 2007, a carcass of a small shark that was trapped in a shark net was found by a contractor at the beach that caused it to be temporarily closed.[3]

On 19 April 2019, a 60-year-old woman was found dead at the BBQ site of the beach after she was lying unconscious on the pebble beach.[4]

Usage

The beach is a hot spot for windsurfing and other watersports, and hosts the Dragon Boat Championships every year.[5]
