Suzuki S-Presso
The Suzuki S-Presso is a crossover-styled city car produced by Maruti Suzuki, Suzuki's subsidiary in India. It slots above the Alto and below the Wagon R in the Indian market. The car is marketed as a micro SUV or mini crossover by its rugged styling and high ground clearance of 180 mm.[3] The S-Presso is built on the fifth-generation HEARTECT platform derived from Suzuki kei cars and uses 40% high tensile steel.[1][4] It is exported to developing countries and regions in Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia and Latin America.[5]

India
The Maruti S-Presso concept car called "Future S concept" was presented at Auto Expo 2018 in February 2018,[6] the production model was announced on 30 September 2019. It rivals Renault Kwid and Datsun redi-Go in India.[7] Four trim levels are available; Standard, LXi, VXi and VXi+.
- STD trim available with driver side airbag, ABS, front seatbelt reminders, digital speedometer, immobilizer, 13-inch steel wheels, rear parking sensors and speed alert system.
- LXi trim received all features from STD trim with additional air conditioning, power steering and sun visors.
- VXi trim added keyless entry, AGS automated manual gearbox option, gear position indicator (AGS)/gear shift indicator (MT), Maruti’s SmartPlay Dock audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, 12V accessory socket, central locking, speed sensitive door locks, front power windows, body-colored bumpers and 14-inch steel wheels with hubcaps.
- VXi+ trim added front passenger airbag, mirror adjusters, front seatbelts with pre-tensioners and force limiter, body-colored mirrors and door handles, 7.0-inch SmartPlay Studio infotainment system with voice recognition, steering with control buttons, rear parcel tray, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and parking brake warning.
Optional (O) front passenger airbag and front seatbelts with pre-tensioners and force limiter safety features are available for STD(O), LXi(O) and VXi(O) trims.
CNG variant was announced in June 2020 and available across the range except for STD trim.[9][10][11] AGS automated manual transmission is not available as option. The CNG variant is heavier, less powerful and slightly pricier than regular petrol variants.
Philippines
In the Philippines, S-Presso was unveiled on 14 March 2020 together with XL7.[12] Only available with single trim with 5-speed manual transmission, the features for this market is based on the combination of Indian market VXi and VXi+ trims.[13]
South Africa
S-Presso was launched in South Africa in March 2020. Available with three trim levels; GL, GL+ and S-Edition, the latter is based on GL+ with additional visual accessories.
Nigeria
As the follow up of the reintroduction of Suzuki brand in Nigeria in 2019, Suzuki's distributor in Africa, CFAO Motors (fr) unveiled S-Presso and other Suzuki cars on 4 June 2021.[14]
Tunisia
The Suzuki S-Presso was announced for Tunisian market in June 2020 and became available in October in the same year.[15] This car is marketed as the cheapest micro SUV in the market.
Chile
In March 2020, Suzuki launched S-Presso in Chile. Two trim levels are available; the cheaper GLX and more expensive GLX Adventure that equipped with exterior accessories and dual tone 14-inch alloy wheels. Both only available with manual transmission.
Peru
Suzuki launched S-Presso for Peruvian market in March 2020. Two trims are available; GA and GL. No AGS automated manual transmission available.
Safety
The Indian version of the S-Presso was tested in its basic safety specification and received a zero star rating from the Global NCAP because of high chest loading for both front occupants and high readings in the front passenger's neck. This version of the S-Presso has no seatbelt pretensioners or force limiters, and no front passenger airbag. Both its structure and footwell area were rated unstable. The vehicle does not offer 3-point belts in all positions as standard and has no ISOFIX anchorages for the Child Restraint Systems (CRS).[16][17][18]
The S-Presso in India is equipped only with a driver's airbag as standard, only higher variants get a front passenger airbag, seatbelt pretensioners and ISOFIX child seat mounts. The car does not offer side airbags or ESC on any variant.
In export markets, however, the S-Presso gets a front passenger airbag, front seatbelt pre-tensioners and force limiters, and ISOFIX anchors as standard, unlike India, where these are only available on higher-end variants.[19][20] While Suzuki distributors assert that this makes these variants safer than the one tested by Global NCAP[21] - in similar vein to the Suzuki Celerio whose zero star score in India stands in contrast to its three star score in Europe[22][23] - none of these export market versions have been crash-tested as of yet.
