The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve

Four months after the events of the previous game, Susato Mikotoba learns that her best friend, Rei Membami, has been accused of murdering Jezaille Brett, the murderer of John Wilson. With no defense attorney willing to help, Susato decides to do so. However, since women aren't allowed in Japanese courts, she disguises herself as Ryunosuke Naruhodo's cousin Ryutaro. Aided by her father Yujin, who never was sick, she discovers that Brett's true killer is Raiten Menimemo, a reporter who hated that she was to be judged in China instead of Japan. Unfortunately, with Brett's death, the reason for her murder of John Wilson remains a mystery. Susato learns that the reason she was summoned back to Japan is connected to a case she previously worked on.

In England, Ryunosuke receives a letter from Susato asking him to look into the case in question. Since he has been banned from the courtroom for using false evidence in Magnus McGilded's trial, he has nothing better to do, so he does so: Six months prior, the day after being cleared, Soseki Natsume is accused again, this time of poisoning William Shamspeare, a failed actor and fellow boarder in a building Natsume claims is cursed by the malevolent spirit of Selden, a criminal who lived in the same flat Natsume now does. Though Shamspeare survives, he sues Natsume for trying to kill him. Ryunosuke and Susato once again go up against infamous prosecutor Barok van Zieks, who has the reputation of being the "Reaper": all the people he tries die no matter what, where those found guilty are sentenced to death and those found not guilty all die under mysterious circumstances shortly after their acquittal. Ryunosuke eventually learns that Shamspeare was poisoned by Olive Green, the victim in Natsume's first case. Shamspeare had been a cellmate of Selden and heard of the treasure he'd hidden in his flat. When he'd failed to rent the flat, he blew on the pipe of the building's shared gas main which filled the flat with lethal gas, killing the previous boarder, Green's fiance Duncan Ross, in the hopes of getting in, then tried the same with Natsume. When Green figured it out, she covered the pipe with strychnine. After the case, Natsume goes back to Japan, while Ryunosuke finds the treasure, a gem-studded dog collar which Herlock Sholmes forbids mention of.

Sometime later, an explosion during a demonstration of a teleportation device at the Great Exhibition results in the death of crime lord Odie Asman. The machine's inventor, Albert Harebrayne, who is a friend of van Zieks, is arrested. Ryūnosuke gets permission from Lord Chief Justice Mael Stronghart to return to court and faces van Zieks, and the masked apprentice assigned to him by Stronghart, with the help of a returned Susato. During the case, they find a connection to the Professor, a serial killer who murdered people by setting his dog on them, one victim allegedly being van Zieks' brother Klint. They also learn that the teleportation device was a fraud funded by Asman to get a huge grant. They eventually prove the killer to be Scotland Yard's Chief Coroner Courtney Sithe, who Asman was blackmailing over her falsely declaring the Professor dead since he seemingly "rose from the dead" afterwards. After the machine's designer, Enoch Drebber, whose life Asman had ruined by exposing him as the witness to the Professor's "resurrection", set it up to kill him and used a stolen wax figure of the Professor to fake the body's location, she finished the job when he survived. Afterwards, van Zieks sends Harebrayne away to avoid the "Reaper" curse. At the same time, the wax sculpture of the alleged Professor is unmasked and van Zieks's apprentice, in shock, removes his own mask to reveal a still alive Kazuma Asogi, whose memory was lost when he was hurt and then restored by the statue's face, that of his father Genshin.

Several days later, Inspector Tobias Gregson is murdered, and van Zieks is arrested as the prime suspect. Despite their rivalry, Ryunosuke takes his defense in a trial presided over by Stronghart himself, going up against Prosecutor Kazuma Asogi, who wishes to avenge his father who was sent to his death by van Zieks. It eventually comes out that Stronghart is the mastermind behind the Reaper, who is not a single person but an organization set up to kill anyone prosecuted by van Zieks, though ironically van Zieks was never a part of it. In this organization, Brett was one of the assassins, and Stronghart led Wilson, Gregson, Sithe and Japanese judge Seishiro Jigoku to aid with the killings in various ways. The ultimate goal was a crime-free England. It started with the Professor killings, which Klint actually committed with his hound Balmung, to whom the gem-studded dog collar belonged. When Stronghart found out, he blackmailed Klint into targeting people he chose. When Genshin figured out Klint's identity, Stronghart wouldn't do anything, so he killed Klint in a duel. When Stronghart found out, he framed Genshin for the other murders, only for Genshin to use Klint's will that would've exposed him to negotiate a fake execution and a secret escape. When the attempt was nearly exposed by the gravedigging Drebber, Stronghart had Jigoku kill Genshin. Both Wilson and Gregson were later killed to ensure Stronghart's crimes were never learned and he could be promoted to Attorney General. Stronghart sent Kazuma to London as an assassin to kill Gregson, but when it turned out Asogi had no intent of killing him, Jigoku took it upon himself to do it as the one who'd selected Kazuma in the first place. Though Ryunosuke finds Klint's will within the Asogi clan's sword, Karuma, Stronghart is confident he's untouchable, only to learn that Sholmes has exposed his crimes to the queen, who strips him of his rank and leaves him to be arrested. It's also revealed that Iris Wilson's father isn't John Wilson but Klint; before his death, Genshin sent Yujin to find Klint's wife, who died in childbirth, leaving the infant Iris with his partner Sholmes, who, in keeping with both Genshin's and Mikotoba's wishes, made sure Iris never published the manuscript based on the Professor case. Ryunosuke makes peace with both van Zieks and Kazuma, who decides to remain a prosecutor, and returns to Japan with Susato to continue his career as a defense attorney.
