Thijs Reuten
M. J. A. "Thijs" Reuten (Dutch pronunciation: [tɛis ˈrøːtə(n)]; born 1974) is a Dutch politician of the Labour Party (PvdA) who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 15 April 2021.[2]

Early life and education
Reuten was born in Bussum, North Holland to a Dutch father and an Italian mother.[2][3] He is the older brother of actress Thekla Reuten.[4] He studied political science with a specialisation in international relations at the University of Amsterdam.
Career
Between 1998 and 2006, Reuten worked for the Labour Party's parliamentary group in the House of Representatives.[1] At the same time, he held a seat in the borough council of Zuideramstel from 1998 to 2002.[5]

Career in local politics
In 2002, Reuten was elected into the municipal council of Amsterdam.[5] He was re-elected in 2006, but left the council to focus on his work as a political advisor to State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Frans Timmermans.[1][5]
From 2010 to 2018, Reuten served as a member of the executive board of Amsterdam-Oost, a borough of Amsterdam.[1] His portfolio included spatial planning and housing.
Member of the European Parliament, 2021–present
On 15 April 2021, Reuten was installed as a member of the European Parliament, replacing Kati Piri.[1] In parliament, he has since been serving on the Committee on Foreign Affairs.[6] In addition to his committee assignments, he is part of the parliament's delegation to the EU-North Macedonia Joint Parliamentary Committee.[7]
