Vrishasena

In the Hindu epic Mahabharata, Vrishasena (Sanskrit: वृषसेन, romanized: Vṛṣasena) was the eldest son of the warrior Karna.[1] Along with his father, he fought in the Kurukshetra war from the side of the Kauravas. Vrishasena was killed by Arjuna.[2]

Kurukshetra War

During the Kurukshetra war, Karna did not take part for the first ten days due to the dispute he had with Bhishma. Only when Bhishma fell on the tenth day, Karna and his sons joined the Kauravas to fight against the Pandavas on the eleventh day in the Kurukshetra war.

11th day

Vrishasena alone encountered all Upapandavas but was rescued by Bhima. [3]

13th day

On the 13th day of the war, Vrishasena had a major role in the killing of Abhimanyu. He was one among the warriors who stabbed Abhimanyu from all sides.

14th night

Vrishasena pierced Drupada and Drupada became unconscious. His charioteer took him away. In that terrible fight, Vrishasena thoroughly destroyed all forces of Drupada.[4]

17th day

Karna was earlier involved in the killing of an unarmed Abhimanyu on the thirteenth day of the battle. First, Karna broke Abhimanyu's bow from behind, since it was impossible to face an armed Abhimanyu and then finally stabbed Abhimanyu along with other warriors.[5] Remembering the unjustified death of his son in which both Karna and Vrishasena had a major role, Arjuna planned for revenge. Arjuna gave the challenge to Karna to save his son and attacked Vrishasena fiercely and fired four razor headed arrows, cutting off Vrishasena's bow, his two arms and then his head in front of Karna, who failed to protect his son. Enraged, Karna invoked the Bhargava Astra and massacred the Pandava army, making Arjuna avoid the battlefield at Keshava's command from the battlefield and brutalized Yudhishthira to the point of certain death, but sparing his life owing to his promise to Kunti.[6]
