Whispers (1990 film)

Whispers is a 1990 Canadian horror film directed by Douglas Jackson[3] and starring Victoria Tennant, Jean LeClerc, Chris Sarandon, Peter MacNeill, and Linda Sorenson.[4][5][6] The movie concentrates on a woman who is stalked by a weird, psychopathic killer. The film is based on the novel by American suspense author Dean Koontz, originally published in 1980. The film was re-released on DVD in 2012.

Plot

The journalist Hillary Thomas (Victoria Tennant) nears the mental collapse as she is mercilessly pursued by the sadistic psychopath Bruno Clavell (Jean Leclerc), whom she once interviewed for her latest book and who is now intent on murdering her at any cost. Clavell arranges multiple attempts on her life, but she survives and finally manages to recognize him, while failing to undertand his motivation to kill her. Eventually, after Clavell breaks into her apartment, she kills him in self-defense—but only to have him appear in her life again, this time seemingly sane and having no knowledge of the previous attacks.

Understanding that her disaster does not end there, Thomas resorts to the help of police officer Tony Clemenza (Chris Sarandon). Initially, Clemenza does not not believe her story but agrees to investigate the case further. Soon they realize that Hilary is not mad and that there is someone who really tries to assassinate her for some reason. Gradually, they become romantically bonded, while investigating this terrifying mystery, which may be solved by digging into the Clavell's weird past.[7][8]
