Silly Season news and updates

Teams

  • On August 30, 2021, it was announced that Rev Racing would be expanding to two full-time cars in the main ARCA Menards Series with Rajah Caruth, who drove full-time for the team in the East Series in 2021, driving the second car. Nick Sanchez will return to the team full-time in the other car.[4] (As a result, the team will not field a full-time car in the East Series in 2022.)[11]
  • On October 7, 2021, an article on Frontstretch revealed that Rev Racing will receive manufacturer support from Chevy in 2022, which they did not have in 2021 despite being a Chevy team.[3]
  • Miles Thomas Motorsports will debut in 2022. The team will compete full-time or part-time in both the ARCA Menards Series and Xfinity Series with Jason Miles, who is also a co-owner of the team. Miles competed part-time in ARCA for Fast Track Racing in 2019 and 2021. Ford will be their manufacturer. The team has yet to announce their car number, sponsors, and crew chief.[6]
  • On October 29, 2021, GMS Racing announced that Daniel Dye, who drove their No. 21 car part-time in the main ARCA Series and the East Series in 2021, would run full-time in the same car in 2022 in the main ARCA Series. It will be the first time since 2015 that GMS has fielded a full-time car in the main ARCA Series.[2]
  • On December 7th, 2021, a crew member Ron Vandermier Jr's team tweeted as confirmation they would be at the Daytona test and the opening race of the season at Daytona.
  • On December 9th, 2021, Andy Jankowiak confirmed as a response to a fans question on Twitter that he would return to run in the ARCA Racing Series in 2022,[12]

Drivers

  • With Ty Gibbs all but confirmed to be moving up to the Xfinity Series full-time in 2022, Sammy Smith, the 2021 ARCA Menards Series East champion, is likely to return to Joe Gibbs Racing to drive the No. 18 car in most of the races in the main ARCA Series in 2022. However, because he will not turn 18 (the minimum age to race at all tracks) until June 4, 2022, he will need to miss all of the races at the larger tracks (such as Daytona and Talladega) that happen before then.[5] Smith confirmed to Frontstretch that this was likely the plan, and that Mark McFarland would return as his crew chief in 2022.[3]
  • On October 29, 2021, GMS Racing announced that Daniel Dye, who drove their No. 21 car part-time in the main ARCA Series and the East Series in 2021, would run full-time in the same car in 2022 in the main ARCA Series. Dye will turn 18 on December 4, 2021, after which he will be eligible to run all the races.[2]
  • On December 10th, Daniel Dye announced his number for the 2022 ARCA Menards Series Season will change to #43 from #21.[13]

Drivers

  • On October 7, 2021, an article on Frontstretch revealed the following news about the potential plans of drivers who competed in the series in 2021:[3]
    • Corey Heim, who drove for Venturini Motorsports full-time in 2021 and part-time in 2020, might move up to the Truck Series full-time in 2022. (He knows his 2022 plans but cannot announce them yet according to Frontstretch.) On the broadcast of the race at Salem, MAVTV broadcasters did say that Heim would run in the Truck Series in 2022.
    • Gracie Trotter will likely return to Venturini Motorsports. Whether she runs full-time or part-time has yet to be determined.
    • Jesse Love will not run a third full season in the West Series and will likely focus on running part-time again in the main ARCA Series with Venturini. (He still won't be old enough to run the full season since he was born in 2005.)
    • Greg Van Alst and his team might run full-time in 2022 after running part-time in 2021.
    • Zachary Tinkle Was rumored to run full-time split between Tim Richmond and Wayne Peterson's teams, both of whom he drove for part-time in 2021. Tinkle has since tweeted on November 6th he does not expect to return to Richmond's team.
    • Tim Richmond will likely have recovered from his 2021 injury and return to ARCA in 2022 driving for his team.
  • On October 14, 2021, another Frontstretch article revealed that Tony Cosentino told the site that he would like to run full-time in the series for Fast Track Racing in 2022 after running part-time for the team in 2021.[1]
