In addition, it guarantees the holder diplomatic immunity even when traveling abroad.
The service passport is an identity and travel document issued for the accomplishment of a mission or a trip abroad and attributed to a certain category of persons (civilian or military officials assigned to diplomatic or consular posts, with their minor children and wives).
There are other special travel documents such as the international pilot's document for pilots of aircraft on the international service of Air Algerie or the maritime navigation booklet (livret de marin).
Biometric passport
Biometric passports started to be issued on January 5, 2012.[2]
Physical appearance
The data page of the passport is from rigid polycarbonate plastic and contains a microchip embedded in which are stored biometric data of the holder including fingerprints, photo and signature. The data is extracted from the chip with wireless RFID technology.
The photo on the page can be scanned and is replied by side and it is UV reactive. It has an alphanumeric code at the bottom of the data page which is machine-readable with optical scanners. The code includes microprinting, holographic images, images visible only with UV light, filigree and other details.
Identity page
The identity page and the second page of the passport are protected by a transparent heat-sealed laminate. On this page, all the holder's information is written. It consists of two areas: the first is the visual area, the second is the machine-readable area.[3]
The visual area contains inscriptions in three languages (Arabic, French, English). On the left-hand side of the page is the wording "Passport" written in its three languages, the holder's digitised photograph (Width: 35mm, Height: 45mm)[4] and at the bottom of it a unique national identification number "NIN». In the centre of the page, the letter 'P' identifies ordinary passports, 'DP' identifies diplomatic passports and 'PS' identifies service passports with the holder's function mentioned, in addition to the Algerian State code (DZA) 19. Next are the surname, first name(s), date and place of birth of the holder with the signature. On the right-hand side of the page is the passport number, the name of the spouse (dead or alive), the gender, the date of issue and expiry of the passport and the issuing authority. Finally, a reproduction of the photograph is shown, using the microperforéo technique.
On the transparent laminate, there are several figures and mentions. The upper part of the photograph shows a map of Algeria with the mention DZ (the "D" inside the map) and the lower part of the photograph shows the figure of the Algiers Martyr Memorial. On the information area, in the centre, there is the seal of the State, and at the top, an English mention (Algerian passport); the inner right side of the information area has two figures of the Algerian flag juxtaposed vertically.
Other pages
All the inner pages of the passport are made of buff-coloured paper, 105 μm thick with the coat of arms of Algeria in the centre.
On the first cover page, a text in Arabic classifies four recommendations: the passport is personal and cannot be lent or sent by mail as it contains a sensitive electronic chip. The holder is advised to take care of it. Any damage to (or counterfeiting of) the chip may render it illegible and render the document invalid. In the event of loss or destruction, the holder must immediately inform the competent administrative or consular authority. The second cover page (page 28) contains text in French and English that quotes the recommendations of the first cover page.
The first page of the passport contains several statements, written in Arabic, French and English (in black ink); at the top: 'People's Democratic Republic of Algeria', at the bottom: 'This passport is the property of the Algerian State' and 'This passport contains 28 pages'. The centre of the page bears the seal of the State.
