Ali Maâloul

Ali Maâloul (born 1 January 1990; Arabic: علي معلول‎) is a Tunisian professional footballer who plays as a left back for Al Ahly and the Tunisia national team.

Club career

Maâloul in formed and made his debut with CS Sfaxien. Since 2009, the player has joined the team and has been competing for his place in the starting lineup.

Slowly, Ali Maâloul took on more games, honed his skills more and had clear offensive characteristics. From season to season he took his foot in the starting line-up to become one of the pillars of his team and one of the pillars of the Tunisian national team, especially with his skill to carry fixed balls and register free kicks. Since the 2014–15 season, Ali Maâloul has become the first captain of CS Sfaxien.

In the 2015–16 season, Ali Maâloul became the scorer of the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1 with 14 goals in round 20, a record that has not been matched by any defender in the history of the Tunisian league. No defender has scored more than 9 goals per season.

As of 25 July 2016, Maâloul joined the Egyptian club Al Ahly for a period of four years.

International career

On July 6, 2013, he played his first match with Tunisia against Morocco, in the qualifiers for the 2014 African Nations Championship (0–1 defeat).[2] He also participated in two editions of the Africa Cup of Nations, in 2015 and 2017. In the 2015 edition, he played four matches, losing Tunisia in the quarter-finals to Equatorial Guinea in extra time. In the 2017 edition, he plays three matches, with Tunisia reaching the quarter-finals again against Burkina Faso.

Ali Maâloul also participated with the Tunisian national team in the 2016 African Nations Championship. He played three matches in this tournament, in which Tunisia will lose in the quarter-finals against Mali. He also participated with the Tunisian national team in the 2018 FIFA World Cup,[3] which was organized in Russia.[4] He played two matches, against England (1–2 defeat) and Belgium (2–5 defeat).
