"Anna rakkaudelle tilaisuus" ("Give love a chance") was the Finnish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1978, performed in Finnish by Seija Simola.

Description

The song is sung to a boy growing up. Simola tells him that, while everything in the world seems new and exciting at the moment, it will soon seem not so. Thus, he must learn to "give love a chance" in order to remain positive. Simola also recorded the song in English under the title "Give Love a Chance".

The song was dedicated to her child named Nico Hartonen (born in 1975): Simola had married Pekko Hartonen in 1973 and the lyrics were based on Nico's progress as a young being man in society but also she stated that she is giving an opportunity to share his feelings as a singer but also as a mother to her child.

Composer Reijo Karvonen stated that the song was just based entirely on her paternal care of herself about her child's growth and just only giving her best.

The song qualified for Viisut 78 and gained in the first place.

Eurovision Song Contest

The song was performed fourth on the night, following Italy's Ricchi e Poveri with "Questo amore" and preceding Portugal's Gemini with "Dai li dou". At the close of voting, it had received two points, placing 18th in a field of twenty.

It was succeeded as Finnish representative at the 1979 contest by Katri Helena with "Katson sineen taivaan".
