Bharathi Kannamma (2019 TV series)

Lakshmi (Raksha) and Hema (Lisha) are now eight years old. Kannamma lives with Soundharyalakshmi in a village where they meet Palani and Seetha and became close to them. Kannamma runs a tailoring shop. Bharathi and his family arrive at the village for organising a free medical camp for the people there, unaware that Kannamma lives there. The family stays there to attend the village's temple festival. Bharathi meets Soundharyalakshmi, not knowing that she is his daughter. After eight years, Durga has become a doctor. Now all the staff and patients from Venba's hospital go to Durga's hospital just opposite the road, angering Venba. But Durga falls in love with Venba. Now Kannamma and Lakshmi go to Chennai and Lakshmi enters Bharathi's hospital and asks where he is. Now Kannamaa and Lakshmi stay with Thulasi. Here Anjali is pregnant also she realised her mistakes and has changed her character. Hema and Lakshmi study in the same school. Bharathi has a soft corner towards Lakshmi. Bharathi decides to marry Venba despite his family but her attitude towards Hema leads to friction between them. Here, Kannamaa, Thulasi and their house owner Sumathi (Neepa) start a new business. Hema and Lakshmi are surprised to share the same birth date. So, they decide to celebrate their birthday together at Hema's place. Kanamma attends the birthday party secretly and the kids spot her. Bharathi is shocked to see Kannamaa when Hema introduces her as "Samayalamma". Bharathi decides to take Hema abroad as she is too attached to Kannamma. Hema is kidnapped by Venba to stop Bharathi from going abroad. Bharathi accuses Kannamma of kidnapping his daughter. Kanamma is arrested on Bharathi's complaint and SoundaryaLakshmi releases her on bail. Later he realizes that Kanamma didn't kidnap Hema instead saved her from goons. He convinces Hema to go with him to the US. He visits Kannamma's house on Hema's insistence as Hema wants to bid a farewell to Kannamma before she goes to America with her father. Bharathi thanks Kannamma and asks for an apology for his misunderstanding. Hema learns that her mother's name is Kannamma from the passport form and confronts her grandmother, Anjali and Bharathi. Bharathi narrates how he met Kannamma and his love life and tells that Hema resembles her mother Kannamma. To avoid further details, he tells Hema that her mother is deceased. This shocks and angers Soundarya Devi and Anjali. Meanwhile, Venba has kidnapped Durga and threatens him to stay away from her.

Anjali is diagnosed with a heart ailment during pregnancy. The doctor tells her that she may face complications in her pregnancy and advises for abortion. Anjali refuses to abort the child and hides the health issue from Akhil.

Bharathi decides to leave for the US with Hema after arguments with his family. Hema has a high fever and suffers convulsions while leaving for the airport. She is admitted to the hospital, and Bharathi is asked to bring Kannamma as she is the last resort to save Hema from danger. Bharathi agrees and leaves for Kannamma's house. Soundarya shouts at Venba while she tries to brainwash him and stops her from accompanying Bharathi to Kannamma's house. Bharathi hesitantly arrives at Kannamma's house and informs about Hema's health. Kannamma visits Hema in the ICU and Hema suddenly improves. Hema is back home but Bharathi decides to leave Hema at Kannamma's house for a week on Dr. Priya's advice. Bharathi is on a visit to Kannamma's house to see Hema and is stuck at her place as the area is sealed as a COVID containment zone.

Later Bharathi learns that Lakshmi is Kannamma's daughter when he admits Lakshmi in hospital from school when she complains of a stomach ache. Aggressive Bharathi confronts his family and Kannamma with the truth by bringing Lakshmi to his home. Anjali's parents organize a baby shower function for Anjali and invite everyone including Kannamma. Venba plots to frame a situation at the function, to make her look like Bharati's wife. Irritated with Venba's behavior, Anjali explains that Venba is not married to Bharathi, to Kannamma's surprise. At the same time, Kannamma learns that she gave birth to twins from a doctor who had seen her scan report earlier. Kannamma doubts that Soundarya Lakshmi and Tulsi have something to do with the second child and that Hema could possibly be her twin daughter. Soundarya Lakshmi is evasive whenever Kannamma asks her about her long-lost twin daughter. Finally after Soundarya learns Kannamma was about to give into Venba's threats against her lost daughter and divorce Bharathi, she admits that Hema is Kannamma's real daughter. Kannamma takes Hema and Lakshmi to the temple and asks Hema about her mother, Hema replies that her mother is dead after she has born. While Kannamma coming to say that she is her real mother, Soundarya Devi comes and stops her.

As Anjali came to know that Hema is Kannamma's daughter, she plans to take Hema to Kannamma's house and discussing with the family. And she asked permission to Barathi as she takes Hema to Anjali's mother's house and he said that he will drop them in Anjali's mother's house. On the way Barathi got a call that a patient needs an immediate heart surgery and he arranged a cab for dropping Hema and Anjali. Now, they both are going to Kannamma's house and she got surprised and they ordered food and ate well. Kannamma asked Anjali about her medicines, Anjali told that she takes medicines properly and it got over. Kannamma asked her prescription slip, Anjali gave the prescription slip which Venba gave. After Kannamma notices Barathi's name, she told Anjali that it is not Bharathi's handwriting. Anjali realizes about Venba's character. Kannamma recommended Ayurveda and brought an old lady to her home and old lady asked Anjali about the problems, she replied that she won't be alive after her delivery. Old lady gave her the medicines and she told everything will be alright. Kannamma, Lakshmi and Hema takes photoshoots. Barathi visits Baakiyalakshmi's house to see Hema and he learns that Anjali is not there , immediately he rushes to Kannamma's house, he takes Anjali and Hema to his house and tells Anjali that he believed her much and Anjali felt sorry for that. Bharathi starts to get paranoid, fearing Hema will be taken away from him somehow, so he plans to divorce Kanamma without letting his family know.

Kanamma then plans to get rid of Venba by hiring two women to ask for an illegal abortion, Venba agrees and the ordeal was recorded and she goes to jail. Upon hearing this, Bharathi visits Venba and she tells him Kanamma planned the whole thing. Bharathi then officially files for a divorce. During the trial, the judge is surprised to learn that despite being separated for 8 years they are still nearly living life like normal, as they are still in touch with each other and take care of their kids together. So, she rejects the divorce request and orders them to live together for 6 months. Not wanting things seem like they are back to normal, Bharathi goes over to live at Kanamma's house, lying to Hema about going on a business trip for 6 months. Soundarya takes Lakshmi to live with Hema while their parents work things out.

While living with Kanamma, Bharathi feels bad watching Kanamma's daily struggles and internally battles with himself as he believes he betrayed her and does not deserve his sympathy

She's sensitive and stays with her father, uncle, aunt and grandparents in the rich villa, after Bharathi adopted her thinking that she's an orphan. She killed Bharathi's first lover Hema and repeatedly tried to kill his wife Kannamma, and she is Durga's love interest. (2019–present)

• Kanmani Manoharan[29] ("Sweety") as Anjali Akilan / "Miss Chennai": Akhilan's wife. Kannamma's half-sister; Shanmugam and Baakiyalakshmi's daughter. Venu and Soundarya Devi's youngest daughter-in-law. A fair-skinned girl, she loves Bharathi and had feelings on him but not now and married Akhilan (his younger brother). She hated Kannamma because of her mother Baagya's upbringing but later reconciled with and supported her, and now she is a pregnant woman. (2019–present)

Soundtrack

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak in India, Bharathi Kannamma, and all other Indian television series and films production were suspended from 19 March 2020.[41] Three months later, shooting was permitted and the team commenced filming in July.[42] The show commenced telecasting new episodes from 27 July 2020.[43] With the increase in Covid cases in Tamil Nadu, the production was suspended for a few days in mid-May 2021.[44][45][46]

In January 2020, Bharathi Kannamma had a crossover with Pandian Stores for a week.[47] It also had a crossover with Raja Rani 2 during March 2021 for three weeks and a day (Raja Rani S2 E-108 to E-126).[48] With the sudden announcement of suspension of shoot in mid-May 2021 and with a few cast availability then for bank episodes shoot, once again the series was crossed over with Raja Rani 2.[49]

Beginning with an average viewership, after a year, In September 2020, the sequence of the series where lead Kannamma leaves the house and was seen walking on the streets for five episodes, received criticisms with memes which trended on online platforms due to which the series gained more popularity and viewership than before, entering top five Tamil television programs.[59][60] During which, in the week 37 of 2020, it became the third most watched Tamil soap for the first time garnering 8.254 million impressions and becoming the second Star Vijay program to enter the top five.[61] However, in week 21 of 2021 when the rival channel Sun TV's top rated soap Roja was shifted to 9:00 pm (IST) against Bharathi Kannamma. During Week 32, Bharathi Kannamma defeated Roja by a margin of 2TVR across Urban and Urban+Rural markets, repeatedly leading in the 9PM slot.[62][63]
