Croatia–Slovakia relations

Croatia–Slovakia relations are foreign relations between Croatia and Slovakia. Croatia has an embassy in Bratislava. Slovakia has an embassy in Zagreb and honorary consulates in Osijek and Split.

Both countries are full members of the European Union and NATO.

History

Czechoslovakia recognized Croatia on 16 January 1992.[1] After dissolution of Czechoslovakia, Croatia and newly established Slovakia mutually recognized and established diplomatic relations on 1 January 1993.[2]


Some Slovaks believe Croats are closer to Slovaks than any other people due to their origins in the high tatras, historical relations from 1848 shown a pan Slavic unity between Slovaks and Croats, both peoples fought against Hungarian revolutionaries


From 1941-1945, the Independent state of Croatia had it’s best diplomatic relations with the Slovak state


Many people on the internet and football fans also claim a unique brotherhood between Slovaks and Croats
