Domašov nad Bystřicí Czech pronunciation: [ˈdomaʃof ˈnad bɪstr̝̊ɪtsiː], formerly Domštát (German: Domstadtl) is a village and municipality (obec) in Olomouc District in the Olomouc Region of the Czech Republic, located in the eastern part of the country.

The municipality covers an area of 15.95 square kilometres (6.16 sq mi), and has a population of around 480.

Domašov nad Bystřicí lies approximately 22 kilometres (14 mi) north-east of Olomouc and 221 km (137 mi) east of Prague.

History

The oldest known mention of the village comes from 1269, when it was part of the Kingdom of Bohemia. In 1469 it passed under Hungarian rule, and in 1490 it returned to Bohemia. The Battle of Domstadtl of the Seven Years' War took place near the village in 1758. After the compromise of 1867, along with the Bohemian Crown, it was located in the Austrian part of Austro-Hungary, as Domstadtl, in the Sternberg (Šternberk) district, one of the 34 Bezirkshauptmannschaften in Moravia.[2] A post-office was opened in 1869. Following World War I, since 1918, it was part of Czechoslovakia.

In 1938, after the Munich Agreement, it was occupied by Germany as one of the municipalities in Sudetenland, one of the 6 towns of Landkreis Bärn.[3] During World War II, the Germans operated the E159 forced labour subcamp of the Stalag VIII-B/344 prisoner-of-war camp at the local quarry.[4] The German speaking population was expelled in 1945 (further to the Beneš decrees) and replaced by Czech settlers, who renamed the village.
