Greendale Fault
The Greendale Fault is an active seismic fault in the middle of New Zealand's South Island. This was one of the main faults that caused the Canterbury earthquake of 2010.

The rupture of the earth’s surface is clearly visible in this aerial shot of the Greendale Fault. This photograph was taken from a helicopter at an altitude of around 200 meters, looking north, about 12 hours after the Darfield earthquake. The hedgerow and tractor tire tracks in the paddocks have been horizontally offset by about 3.5 meters. The land in the foreground has moved to the left (west), the land on the far side of the fault rupture has moved to the right (east).
Canterbury earthquake
A powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake,[1][2] occurred on the Greendale Fault at 4:35 am on 4 September 2010 local time (16:35 3 September UTC).[1] The quake caused widespread damage and several power outages, particularly in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand's second largest city.[3][4]
