Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007

Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2007 was the national final format developed by RÚV in order to select Iceland's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2007. The four shows in the competition were hosted by Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir and all took place at the Basecamp Studio in Reykjavík. Twenty-four songs in total competed in Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2007 where the winner was determined after three semi-finals and a final. Eight songs competed in each semi-final on 17 January, 23 January and 3 February 2007. The top three songs from each semi-final qualified to the final which took place on 17 February 2010. The results of all shows were determined by 100% public televoting.

On 21 October 2006, RÚV opened the submission period for interested songwriters to submit their entries until the deadline on 16 November 2006. Songwriters were required to be Icelandic, possess Icelandic citizenship or have permanent residency in Iceland. All songs were required to be submitted in Icelandic.[1] At the close of the submission deadline, 188 entries were received. A selection committee was formed in order to select the top twenty-four entries.[2] The twenty-four competing artists and songs were revealed by the broadcaster on 15 January 2007.[3] Among the competing artists are previous Icelandic Eurovision entrants Eiríkur Hauksson, who represented Iceland and Norway in 1986 and 1991 as part of ICY and Just 4 Fun, respectively, and Jónsi, who represented Iceland in 2004.

The first semi-final took place on 17 January 2007 where eight competing acts presented their entries. The top three entries voted upon solely by public televoting proceeded to the final. "Blómabörn" performed by Bríet Sunna Valdemarsdóttir, "Áfram" performed by Sigurjón Brink, and "Húsin hafa augu" performed by Matthías Matthíasson were the qualifiers.

The second semi-final took place on 27 January 2007 where eight competing acts presented their entries. The top three entries voted upon solely by public televoting proceeded to the final. "Eldur" performed by Friðrik Ómar, "Segðu mér" performed by Jónsi, and "Ég les í lófa þínum" performed by Eiríkur Hauksson were the qualifiers.

The third semi-final took place on 3 February 2007 where eight competing acts presented their entries. The top three entries voted upon solely by public televoting proceeded to the final. "Bjarta brosið" performed by Andri Bergmann, "Ég og heilinn minn" performed by Ragnheiður Eiríksdóttir, and "Þú tryllir mig" performed by Hafsteinn Þórólfsson were the qualifiers.

The final took place on 17 February 2007 where the nine entries that qualified from the preceding three semi-finals competed. The winner, "Ég les í lófa þínum" performed by Eiríkur Hauksson, was determined solely by public televoting.
