T1 League

The T1 League is a Taiwanese men's professional basketball league founded in 2021.[1] It is the third professional basketball league in Taiwan after the Chinese Basketball Alliance (CBA) and the P. League+ (PLG). In the 2021-22 season, the T1 League consists of six teams, Kaohsiung Aquas, New Taipei CTBC DEA, Taichung Wagor Suns, Tainan TSG GhostHawks, TaiwanBeer HeroBears and Taoyuan Leopards.

History

On May 10, 2021, Kuan Kuang-Chung, the former National Basketball Association Taiwan region general manager, served as the sponsor of the new professional basketball league. And there were four corporations willing to join the league.[2] On May 24, the name of new league was announced as T1 League.[3] There were four teams came from New Taipei City, Taipei City, Taichung City and Kaohsiung City applied to join the league.[4] On May 26, the Kaohsiung Aquas announced to join the T1 League.[5] On June 19, the Taichung Suns was established formally.[6] On July 30, the New Taipei CTBC DEA was established formally to be the new team of the T1 League.[7]

On August 6, the T1 League announced that Rosa Chien was the commissioner of the league. Besides, the Taoyuan Leopards and Tainan team would join the league.[8] On August 9, the T1 League held the first draft. There were 17 players chosen in 5 rounds.[9] On September 2, Taiwan Beer basketball team announced to join the league as TaiwanBeer HeroBears.[10] On September 30, the name of Tainan team was announced as the Tainan TSG GhostHawks.[11] On November 25, Taichung Suns changed the name to Taichung Wagor Suns.[12]

Regular season

Each team is allowed to register maximum local players, 4 foreign players, and 3 third type players.[19] The third type players include overseas Chinese, foreign students, Asian import players[lower-alpha 1], and naturalized players.[21] Foreign players and the third type players can only play 10 player times in 4 quarters.[20] Each team plays 30 games, 15 each for home and away. Each quarter plays 12 minutes.

Playoffs

The teams with rank 4 and 5 in regular season play the best-of-three wild-card series, and the team with rank 4 in regular season can get 1 win before the wild-card series. The teams with rank 2 and 3 in regular season, rank 1 in regular season and the winner of the wild-card series play the best-of-five semi-final series.[22]

Finals

The winners of the semi-final series play the best-of-seven final series.[22]
