Tooronga railway station

Tooronga railway station is located on the Glen Waverley line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the eastern Melbourne suburb of Malvern, and it opened on 24 March 1890.[1]

The station is named after nearby Tooronga Road, which in turn was named after a nearby two-story property. The word Tooronga is Aboriginal, meaning modern or new.[2]

The current station was provided in 1955, when duplication of the line occurred between Kooyong and Gardiner stations.[1] The current station buildings were provided in 1975.[3]

Boom barriers replaced interlocked gates at the Tooronga Road level crossing, located at the Down end of the station, in 1966. The signal box and a goods yard were also abolished during this time.[1]

Tooronga has two side platforms. It is serviced by Metro Trains' Glen Waverley line services.[4]

CDC Melbourne operates one route via Tooronga station, under contract to Public Transport Victoria:

  •  624 : Kew – Oakleigh station[5]

The bus stops outside the station are also used by bus replacements for the Glen Waverley line.
