– Utsunomiya LRT opening (after delays).[4]
– Planned partial opening of MRT Putrajaya line, Malaysia's fifth metro line, from Sungai Buloh/Kwasa Damansara to Kampong Batu.[5]
– The Science Park and Lechmere stations of the MBTA's Green Line are scheduled to reopen as part of the Green Line Extension project.[6]

April

April 1 – ScotRail Trains to takeover from Abellio ScotRail as operator of ScotRail franchise[7]

August

– Expected start of passenger service through the Regional Connector in Los Angeles.[17]
– Several night trains in Brussels to be launched, at least Brussels-Malmo is approved.

September

– Toronto subway Line 1 Yonge–University is expected to introduce ATC at the full length of line (as of 2020, it is 70% completed).[18]

November

– Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's K Line expected to open after several delays.[19]

December

– Expected completion of Wendlingen–Ulm high-speed railway.[20]
– Opening of Agra Metro.[21]
– The first section of Milan Metro Line 4, between Forlanini FS and Linato Aeroporto, is scheduled to open.[22] The section will be disconnected from the rest of Milan Metro network.
– Milan Metro Line 4 extension to San Babila.[23][24]
– Scheduled opening of Metro Express (Mauritius) phase 2B.[25]
– Red and Blue lines of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit estimated opening.[26]
– The Follo Line is expected to open after delay.[27]
