Tau Malachi (full name: Tau Malachi eben Ha-Elijah; born Brett Cagle in 1962[1]) is an American neo-Gnostic religious leader and writer.

He is currently the bishop of the Ecclesia Pistis Sophia, also known as the Sophian Fellowship.[2][3]

Tau Malachi is the current spiritual leader of the Sophian Gnostic tradition, a neo-Gnostic group. Although members claim that it dates back to the 1700s,[4] the current Sophian Gnostic spiritual lineage was first started in the 1880s by Tau Miriam, an Englishwoman who moved to the United States in the early 1900s and became the spiritual teacher of Tau Elijah,[5][6] also known as Timothy Storlie.[7]

Biography

He was born Brett Cagle in 1962 in the United States,[1] and was 8 years old when he met neo-Gnostic spiritual leader Tau Elijah. As a disciple of Tau Elijah during the 1970s and early 1980s, he received the spiritual name Tau Malachi eben Ha-Elijah.[8]

In 1983, Tau Elijah died, upon which Tau Malachi succeeded him and founded the Sophia Fellowship.[9]

Tau Malachi is also a Martinist.[10] Other than Christianity and Gnosticism, he has also studied and participated in Vajrayana Buddhism, Vedanta, Sufism, and Native American shamanism.[11]

Tau Malachi currently resides in Grass Valley, California.[12][13]
