France in the Eurovision Song Contest 1956

France was one of seven countries to enter the Eurovision Song Contest 1956, inaugural Eurovision Song Contest, in Lugano, Switzerland. RTF, the French broadcaster, internally selected the two entrants that would send to the contest.

Before Eurovision

Internal selection

The French broadcaster RTF decided to internally select entrants who will represent France at the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest 1956 in Lugano, Switzerland. Mathé Altéry with the song "Le temps perdu" and Dany Dauberson with the song "Il est là" were selected by the broadcaster to participate in the contest.[1][2]

At Eurovision

Both of the French entries were conducted at the contest by the composer Franck Pourcel.[3][4] The final votes of the first contest were never announced, so it is not known what place the songs finished at the actual Eurovision Song Contest.[5]
