I Can See Your Voice is a British television mystery music game show that premiered on 10 April 2021 on BBC One. It is an adaptation of the South Korean programme of the same name.

Gameplay

Format

A guest artist and group of two contestants are presented with a group of six "mystery singers" — some of them are good singers, and some are bad. Contestants must attempt to eliminate bad singers from the group by guessing who they are without hearing them sing. They get assistance from clues by "celebrity panelists" over the course of four rounds. Contestants will eliminate one to two singers at the end of each round and then proceeding to perform on the "stage of truth". At the end, the winning mystery singer is revealed as good or bad by means of a duet with one of the guest artists.[1]

Rewards

If the last mystery singer is a good singer, the contestants win a cash prize of £10,000. On the other hand, if the last mystery singer is a bad singer, the same amount is given to that singer instead.

Rounds

There are six individuals of mystery singers standing on a platform to keep identities concealed until the "stage of truth" performance.

  1. First Impressions
    The guest artist and contestants are given some time to observe and examine each mystery singer based on their appearance.
  2. Lip sync
    Each mystery singer performs a lip sync to a song. Good singers mime to their own voices while bad singers mime to the voices of others.
  3. Unlock my Life
    Each mystery singer has a video package to convince the guest artist, but with voices being distorted.
  4. Interrogation
    The guest artist and contestants must choose one mystery singer to interrogate. The host is given a list of 15 questions shown on the screen and contestants can ask any of 15 questions within the 30 second time limit before making the final decision.

Production

Background and development

BBC first announced the development of the series in July 2020.[2] Produced by Naked Television and Thames (the both production companies as part of Fremantle),[3] the staff team is managed by executive producers Tom O'Brien for Naked Television, and Amelia Brown and Louis Hutchinson for Thames.[4]

Filming

Episode tapings took place at The Maidstone Studios, Vinters Park in Maidstone, Kent, in which ITV's rival programme Game of Talents was also filmed there.[5] On the 42nd appeal show of the Children in Need charity broadcast, the I Can See Your Voice segment is filmed at Dock10, MediaCityUK in Salford, Greater Manchester.[6] Since the first series, it was taped under enhanced health and safety protocols being implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

History

I Can See Your Voice debuted on 10 April 2021.[7][8] Before the first series finale, the show has been already renewed for the second series premiering in 2022.[9][10]

Special episodes

In the 42nd appeal show of Children in Need charity broadcast on 19 November 2021, the I Can See Your Voice segment[11] featured BBC Breakfast presenter Mike Bushell, newsreader Kate Silverton, and Final Score host Jason Mohammad performing in a lip sync challenge, in which panelists discovered that Bushell was the bad singer.[12]

For the second series, a Christmas special episode with Leona Lewis will air on 24 December 2021.[13][14]
