Gameplay

Format

A guest artist is presented with a group of seven "mystery singers" — some of them are good singers, and some are bad. The artist must attempt to eliminate bad singers from the group by guessing who they are without hearing them sing. They get assistance from clues by "celebrity panelists" over the course of four rounds. The artist will eliminate one to two singers at the end of each round and then proceeding to perform on the "stage of truth". At the end, the winning mystery singer is revealed as good or bad by means of a duet with one of the guest artists.[1]

The Thai version has two gameplay formats:

  • Original format
Under the original format, the guest artist can eliminate one or two mystery singers after each round. The game concludes with the last mystery singer standing that depends on outcome of a duet performance with a guest artist.
  • Versus format (seasons 3—4)
Under the versus format (adopted by Giọng ải giọng ai), both opposing guest artists can eliminate one mystery singer each in the first two rounds, and then both can choose one mystery singer each to perform a duet in the third round. The winning conditions for the mystery singers chosen by both guest artists, depending on the outcome of a duet performance, if:
  1. One guest artist has chosen a "good singer" and the other one has chosen a "bad singer"; or
  2. Both two guest artists have chosen a "good singer" or a "bad singer".

Rounds

There are seven individuals of mystery singers standing on a platform to keep identities concealed until the "stage of truth" performance.

  • Visual round

The guest artist is given some time to observe and examine each mystery singer based on their appearance. Afterward, a muted video of each mystery singer that reveals only 0.3 seconds of their singing voice is played as an additional hint.[lower-alpha 1][lower-alpha 2][lower-alpha 3][lower-alpha 4]

The host is given three "keywords" depending on each mystery singer's identity, and then five different voice snippets from a muted video of each mystery singer are being played.[lower-alpha 5]

  • Introduction round

Each mystery singer introduces with their own voice.[lower-alpha 1][lower-alpha 2][lower-alpha 3][lower-alpha 4][lower-alpha 5]

  • Lip sync round

Each mystery singer performs a lip sync to a song. Good singers mime to their own voices while bad singers mime to the voices of others.[lower-alpha 1][lower-alpha 2][lower-alpha 3][lower-alpha 4]

The mystery singers perform lip sync altogether in two separate phases — the good singers' voices do miming first, and then the bad singers' voices again in the last.[lower-alpha 5]

  • Interrogation round

The guest artist must have then 60 seconds to interrogate the remaining mystery singers before making the final decision.[lower-alpha 1][lower-alpha 2]

  • Talent round

The guest artist must predict each mystery singer based on other talents, except "singing" itself. It may unrelated to the stage of truth, but it depends on identity.[lower-alpha 1][lower-alpha 2][lower-alpha 3][lower-alpha 4][lower-alpha 5]

Production

Background and development

Workpoint Entertainment first announced the development of the series in January 2016.[1] In an interview with CJ ENM format sales director Diane Min from K7 Media, she notably mentioned Thailand as the first country to actually adopt the program that would later subsequently became an international music game show franchise.[2]

In the fourth season, Bigo Live and the network itself jointly collaborated by launching a livestream-based I Can Show my Voice companion event, which was held from 4 to 30 November 2020.[3]

Filming

Episode tapings took place at the Workpoint Studio in Bang Phun, Mueang District, Pathum Thani. Since its debut broadcast in 13 January 2016, the program "never stop filming and airing", stated in her similar interview.[2] In the fourth season, Bigo Live also co-produced the premiere episode.[3] Since the third season from May 2020, production would still continue with enhanced health and safety protocols being implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Broadcast

History

I Can See Your Voice Thailand debuted on 13 January 2016. The second season immediately started a week after the first season finale, with Got7 being the first international guest artists.[4][5] The third season spanned two years of airing that premiered on 21 November 2018.[6][7] Meanwhile, Siriporn Yooyord defeated Sunaree Ratchasima in the first episode under "versus format" on 30 October 2019.[8] In a co-production with Bigo Live, the fourth season began airing on 4 November 2020, with Trinity being the guest artists.[9][10] In celebration of their fifth anniversary, the fifth season (dubbed as I Can See Your Voice Festival) premiered on 13 October 2021.[11][12]

Due to continuous seasonal broadcast, this show has achieved their milestone episodes. On 31 January 2018, the 100th episode was played by Tai Tanawut.[13][14] The New Year's Day in 2020 coincidentally achieved its 200th episode when it was played by Cheranut Yusanonda.[15]

Special episodes

For the first two seasons, I Can See Your Voice Thailand was pre-empted of airing in October due to the demise of King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej.[16] A Memorial Showcase episode was then aired following that event.[17] Other highlight episodes that have occasionally held are New Year's Countdown Showcase (in the first and fourth seasons)[18] and Summer and Rainy Showcase (in the fourth season).[19]

Cast

The series employs a team of "celebrity panelists" who decipher mystery singers' evidences throughout the game. Guest panelists also appear since the first season. Throughout its broadcast, the program has assigned 15 different panelists. The original members consist of Thanawat Prasitsomporn, Neung Jakkawal, and Maneenuch Smerasut.[20] Besides with original lineup, newcomers also include Nilubhol Amornwitwat (from first season); Techint Ploypetch, Darunee Sutiphitak, Kapol Thongplub, and Kiattisak Udomnak (from second season); Nachat Janthapan, Mongkol Sa-ardboonyaphat, Jack Chaleumpol, and Saranyu Winaipanit (from third season); and Godji Tachakorn, Panuphan Chantanawong, and Chinawut Indracusin (from fourth season).
