Skorošice

Skorošice (German: Gurschdorf) is a village and municipality (obec) in Jeseník District in the Olomouc Region of the Czech Republic, located in the north-eastern part of the country.

The municipality covers an area of 46.51 square kilometres (17.96 sq mi), and has a population of 780 (as at 3 July 2006).

Skorošice lies approximately 12 kilometres (7 mi) north-west of Jeseník, 80 km (50 mi) north of Olomouc, and 191 km (119 mi) east of Prague.

History

During the German occupation (World War II), the occupiers operated the E168 and E790 forced labour subcamps of the Stalag VIII-B/344 prisoner-of-war camp in the village.[1] Allied POWs of various nationalities including British and French were imprisoned there.[1]
